Hi Everyone, and WELCOME to The Writing Fairy website. I'm Dorothea Helms, freelance writer, poet, book author, fiction dabbler, writing instructor, keynote speaker, humorist, wife, mother and slave to my English Bulldog, Margaret. My website is undergoing a facelift, boob lift, liposuction, weight loss program ... wait a minute - those are things I need personally. Sheesh. But my website IS in transition after being neglected for a LONG time. My goal is to inspire writers; my method humour (or humor in the U.S.). Enjoy!

Coaxing closet writers to emerge and make their magic known!

OK -I know it’s holiday time and people are busy, but if you’re a writer living within driving distance of Uxbridge, Ontario – time to think about feeding your word habit in the new year. Sue Reynolds, James Dewar and I are offering some faboo writing courses at Blue Heron Books. Enjoy “A Taste of Ink” starting January 9th – six weekly writing-on-the-spot sessions led by James Sue and me. Experiment with various genres with different techniques. These six no-stress evenings will give you a chance to play on the page outside your comfort zone.

Then on February 5th, I will begin my six-week “Writing Down the Winter” course. Explore fiction and nonfiction in a relaxed and inspirational setting surrounded by books. Gain confidence in your writing abilities and discover potential possibilities for publication.

I’m following that up with an eight-week course called “Outrageous Writing” – and the title says it all. Explore fiction and nonfiction in more depth, building on the skills gained from basic creative writing courses. Enliven your characters, spiff up your dialogue, create plot twists and turns, apply fiction techniques to your nonfiction. Write inside the box, outside the box, then smash the box and dance on top of it with words you don’t even know you have inside of you.
